How The Gig Economy Will Change Your World For Better

How The Gig Economy Will Change Your World For Better

The days of a regular 9-to-5 job are over. We are now experiencing a world where people work on their own schedule based on their unique skills. Welcome to the Gig Economy!

I am not going to lie – being part of the Gig Economy doesn’t mean you can slack off. In fact, you might have to work even harder, because now your reputation is on the line. We all know in the digital world, reputation is everything (nobody wants an Uber driver with a 2.0 rating, after all).

But the advantages of doing gigs instead of taking a full-time job are plenty. You can dictate your own time, pick the clients that you like and want to work with, and further develop the skill sets that make you the most money and keep you interested. In summary, you can still be you and make money.

It is like a utopia for skilled workers to be their own boss and dictate their time. With that said, what would a gig economy utopia look like for you? Let me show you the whole new Gig Economy world:

As a freelancer or independent contractor, you’ll want to offer your services on a reputable and high-profile platform. A platform provides you with constant business leads, gives you training and resources to do your tasks, and gives you the opportunity to learn from the best of your peers. There are many reputable platforms that are user-friendly, charge you reasonable rates and let you be your own boss. To name a few, Uber, Lyft, Upwork, Toptal, etc.

What will your day be like in the gig economy?

Imagine your day could start with walking to your kitchen with your pajamas on to make your morning coffee. While you are waiting for your coffee to be ready, you open your laptop and start checking work emails from clients.

While you are drinking coffee instead of commuting to an office, you are working on tasks for your clients such as coding for software, doing accounting online, promoting marketing campaigns on social media, or even answering questions for your patients using a webcam.

After several hours of work, it’s time to take a break from the home office and go outside to check out the world. You could conveniently become an Uber or Lyft driver to drive around town and meet new people.

After dinner, if you are still in the mood to make money, you could get on platforms such as VIPkids to teach kids English in Asia. With a half-day time difference, your nighttime would be daytime in Asia, which makes it the perfect time to teach English. Each English class session lasts about 25 minutes and you get paid by the hour.

How much will you be making?

Let’s do the math here: your morning job on your laptop for four hours would pay you about $120, your afternoon gig to drive around town for another four hours would give you another $120 or so, and your evening gig to teach kids in Asia English for an hour could you give you about another $60 per day. So, on average, you could make about $300 per day and between $6,000 to $9,000 per month depending on the number of days you are willing to work.

Where will you be working?

Isn’t it great to get paid $6,000 to $9,000 per month for doing freelance/contract work? Did I mention that now because you work remotely, you can choose where you want to live? Have you always fantasized about living close to the beach, mountaisn or desert? Now you can do as your heart desires!

Takeaways:

Despite its advantages, the gig lifestyle is not for everyone and it’s best to attempt it when you already have some regular work experience as a foundation. But to work anywhere, anytime is not just a dream anymore – it is becoming the reality. We finally can live the way our hearts desire, all thanks to modern technology. I would even argue that we will become more connected with each other as we depend on each other to accomplish projects together! This is how the Gig Economy will change our world for the better!
